Safety and Care of your Baltic Amber Jewellery

Some safety notes for use of Baltic Amber necklaces

Parents should:

• Supervise children at all times whilst wearing jewellery
• Not allow children to chew, suck or gum on the jewellery
• Ensure item is removed while bathing or swimming
• Frequently check amber beads for cracks or damage due to its brittle nature
• Remove necklace before bed – presents a choking hazard

All children’s necklaces are individually knotted ensuring that if a breakage does occur, only one bead will come loose.

The screw in clasp is designed to give way when force is applied, this is a safety feature of the necklace and therefore not covered by warranty.

Caring for your Baltic Amber will ensure that your jewellery will stand the test of time. Because Amber is a "living" stone you need to treat it with the respect and care that it deserves.

* Never use a harsh cloth to clean your Amber. Buff very softly and gently with a chamois type cloth such as the type used to clean eye glasses. If your Amber is set with silver you can use a soft brush to clean the silver but please do not use the brush on the amber as amber is a very soft gem and you may scratch its surface.

* To keep your amber is beautiful shining condition. Do not allow it to come into contact with household cleaners, soaps, hairsprays, other hair products, extreme heat or chemicals.

* If your amber has lost its shine. You can very gently rinse it in some cool water, buff with a very soft cloth and add the tiniest amount of olive oil to a soft cloth and very gently polish it's surface.

* Storing your amber somewhere dark and cool, wrapped in a nice soft cloth will help the amber to retain its beauty for longer. Please store it out of your jewellery box and do not simply throw it into a drawer where it can get scratched and damaged. Amber darkens with age due to oxidation but you can help to stop it from being discoloured by storing it well away from heat and fluorescent lights.
